Infections are one of the commonest reasons women come in. They may be bacterial, viral, fungal or protozoal. Left untreated they lead to chronic inflammation, fertility problems and complications in pregnancy.

What is treated

Bacterial vaginosis

Inflammatory conditions
Vaginitis, cervicitis, endometritis, adnexitis — inflammation in different parts of the reproductive tract.

Results
PCR takes up to 10 days, culture 5–7. The results are read together and the organism identified.
Prescribing
A regimen chosen for the organism, where it is, and what it is sensitive to.
The course
Take the medication exactly as prescribed. Where needed your partner is treated too, so the infection does not come straight back.
Tests of cure
Two to four weeks after the course ends, repeat tests confirm the infection has cleared.
