When to seek help immediately

Warning signs

  • Bleeding
  • Severe pain low in the abdomen
  • Leaking amniotic fluid
  • No movements felt (after 20 weeks)
  • Severe headache or disturbed vision
  • Swelling of face and hands, rapid weight gain
  • A temperature above 38 °C

If any of these appear, call or message straight away. In an emergency, call an ambulance or go to the maternity unit’s admissions.

Gynecological care in Warsaw — appointments at ul. Głębocka 9, 03-287 — this is the Białołęka district, on the border with Targówek, at the RS-MED centre. The landmark is simple: the same street as the Targówek and Zielony Targówek shopping centres — if you know the way there, you know the way here.

I am easy to reach from Białołęka, Targówek, Bródno and Zielona-Grzybowa, and along Trasa Toruńska from Marki, Ząbki and Nieporęt. No referral and no NFZ insurance are needed: you can book directly, including if you have just arrived in Poland.

Common questions

Before 12 weeks. That leaves time for the first screening scan at 11–14 weeks, for the initial blood tests, and for your Karta ciąży — the pregnancy record book used in Poland. The first visit is usually at 6–8 weeks, when the heartbeat can already be seen.

About 10–12 in an uncomplicated pregnancy: monthly to 28 weeks, fortnightly to 36 weeks, then weekly until delivery. If complications arise, visits are more frequent.

Blood group and rhesus, full blood count and urine, biochemistry, HIV, hepatitis, syphilis, the TORCH screen, cervical cytology, TSH, a glucose tolerance test at 24–28 weeks and a group B strep swab at 35–37 weeks. Referrals are issued as each is due.

Yes. All the paperwork is issued here: the Karta ciąży pregnancy record, referrals for tests and to specialists, and a zwolnienie lekarskie — the Polish sick note — where one is needed. Everything is issued in line with Polish law.
