Pregnancy care in Warsaw

Care through the whole pregnancy, from the first weeks to delivery: regular check-ups, an early ultrasound up to 10 weeks, tests and the karta ciąży. A visit costs 300 zł. This site is in English, but appointments are not held in English — bring someone who can interpret, or tell me in advance and we will find a way.

When to seek help immediately

Warning signs

  • Bleeding
  • Severe pain low in the abdomen
  • Leaking amniotic fluid
  • No movements felt (after 20 weeks)
  • Severe headache or disturbed vision
  • Swelling of face and hands, rapid weight gain
  • A temperature above 38 °C

If any of these appear, call or message straight away. In an emergency, call 112 or go to the emergency department of the nearest maternity hospital.

Where to be seen in Warsaw

Gynecological care in Warsaw — appointments at ul. Głębocka 9/U1, 03-287 — in the Targówek district, at the RS-MED center. The landmark is simple: the same street as the Targówek and Zielony Targówek shopping centres — if you know the way there, you know the way here.

The practice is easy to reach from Białołęka, Targówek, Bródno and Zielona-Grzybowa, and along Trasa Toruńska from Marki, Ząbki and Nieporęt. No referral or insurance is needed: you can book directly, including if you have just arrived in Poland.

Common questions

The first visit is best at 6–8 weeks, when the heartbeat can already be seen. Poland has no registration procedure as such: you choose a doctor and they begin caring for you, open your Karta ciąży and order the tests. What matters is being under care from no later than week 10 — the certificate confirming that is required for the becikowe benefit.

About 10–12 in an uncomplicated pregnancy: monthly to 28 weeks, every two weeks to 36 weeks, then weekly until delivery. If complications arise, visits are more frequent.

Blood group and Rh factor, complete blood count and urine, glucose, HIV, hepatitis B and C, syphilis, toxoplasmosis and rubella antibodies, cervical cytology, TSH, a glucose tolerance test at 24–28 weeks and a group B strep swab at 35–37 weeks. Referrals are issued as each is due.

Yes. All the paperwork is issued here: the Karta ciąży pregnancy record, referrals for tests and to specialists, and a zwolnienie lekarskie — the Polish sick note — where one is needed. Everything is issued in line with Polish law.
